It has often happened to me since childhood that people have underestimated my age. I have people tell me they think I was younger by a lot, sometimes even by a decade or so. I also have heard often that I have a young sounding voice, to the point where a telemarketer just a few weeks ago asked me if they could speak to my parents instead. So it was especially funny when Matt put my age on the decorations for my event birthday, which I don’t remember him doing before.
Matt, as usual, created an amazing display of my birthday theme of WWE Wrestling. I’d had The Little Mermaid theme for the previous two years as well as our coed wedding shower, the former two chosen by me and the latter by my bridesmaids who also did a fantastic job of decorating). I love that he incorporated our WWE replica champion belts, which we’d previously used in our wedding reception entrance and as a photo booth prop.
Matt is actually several years younger than me and will be turning 40 in December. People will often think he is older than me, though I think the age he appears changes greatly on whether he is clean shaven or scruffy. I like both looks on him especially scruffy for informal or sports related photos.
Sometimes the ages we are assumed to be can change under different situations. Prior to my pregnancy, if I was standing right next to Matt I wouldn’t be carded at wine tastings, but I was as several times when he was not. We had a hilarious night with friends Shauna and Jason many months ago at the San Jose bar Paper Plane. We arrived separately as couples. Matt and I weren’t carded and were given the number 40 on a stick when we ordered food. Shauna and Jason who are both many years younger than us not only were carded by the same bar tender, they were given a number in the low twenties as their order number and even got their food sooner. The food was good especially for a bar and I’d love to go back soon though I would, of course, stick to water for the night.
As we knew I was pregnant when it was time to get our tickets for the Pub Craw in Pleasanton, I purchased a Designated Driver ticket. We had a great evening with Matt, Shauna and Jason enjoying beer sampling while I drank water and all of us enjoying snacks and a few photo booths along the way.
I’ve heard that through lifestyle choices a person’s body can sometimes physiologically resemble someone older or younger, i.e. an athletic person may have more energy than someone of the same age who is less athletic.
I have ran several marathons and half marathons which I’ll talk about on other blog posts, and have more recently competed Beachbody programs including ChaLean Extreme, Insanity and a P90x / Insanity hybrid the latter to help tone up for our wedding.
I don’t know if these programs have helped me continue to look more youthful or conceive as it’s been since our wedding that I did them or if Matt’s age being younger than mine helped the pregnancy occur, but I’m so grateful to be pregnant and looking forward to all our pregnancy and upcoming baby adventures.
