Team in Training Casino Night – Throw Back Thursday

On this day six years ago I co-hosted a Casino Style Fundraiser to raise money for Team in Training (aka TNT) benefiting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. One of my favorite parts of the evening was our fantastic photo booth. Looking at these photos years later puts such a smile on my face as I was by so many great friends, a few whom have moved away. This one of Kathy, who I ran many races including the Nike Women’s Half Marathon and Jessica a great friend from work. This TNT session allowed me to run the Nike Women’s Half Marathon for the second time.

The photobooth was set up by Ryan who made it so we could take photos automatically. He even came out the night before to set it up and show me how to run it in his absence.

Of course we had to take a few test photos including this one that shows just how red I had my hair dyed then with a blonde wig that shows a color remarkably similar to how my now dyed strawberry blonde hair looks in some lighting. I’m so glad I will be helping him with a special project related to his business next Friday.

Many Team in Training participants choose an Honoree, a cancer survivor to whom to dedicate their fundraising. Patrick was my Honoree, and I was honored that he made time to come to my event.

In addition to the Casino games (poker and blackjack), we had several raffles with great prizes including a Flip camera.

My friend Dulce did my makeup, and as always did a great job. She did my makeup for many big days in my life including my wedding shower.

My friend Colleen joined me in donning purple the official Team in Training color along with the shirt I wore in my first Team in Training Race.

It took a bit of coaxing to convince my coach, Scott, to get in a photo with me, and as is his style he didn’t don a smile, yet I was glad to have this memory of him and I preserved.

A lot has changed since that night. Colleen and Jessica both moved away to start new chapters in their life. Many of us have changed hair styles including my main color changing a lot. The Nike Women’s Marathon is no longer an event. I’ve found love, gotten married and am now expecting. I’m so glad I have all these photos of this moment in time.

  1. Your colored deep red hair is fab! That was once the color I wore as well. Then you say you colored your hair strawberry blonde red. So now I am confused because you appear to be a true red head(pale skin, freckles, have to protect yourself from getting sunburned! What is your true hair color? You look great in either shade(although I am biased and absolutely love your deep red hair color in these photos). By the way, very nicely done photos of you that I’d never seen before!

    1. My natural color is a dark brown/brunette. One of the most accurate photos I have of it is probably at this blog entry: throw-back-thursday-tbt-dad-and-i-1990. Mostly it photographs a bit darker than it is, I once had someone comment that I must have been a goth in high school as I dyed my hair black, even though it wasn’t black and I hadn’t even dyed it once at that point.

As for my skin tone resembling that of a true redhead, I agree and thank you a lot. My aunt, Yvonne, a woman of many talents and who has excelled in many careers, was for a time a hair stylist. She had told me before I picked red the same thing. I think if I go back far enough on my mom’s side of the family there are a few true blondes and perhaps a redhead or two.
