One of the fun things Matt and I have shared during my pregnancy is finding the right vegetables and fruits for our baby’s week by week size comparison as defined by BabyCenter. Some of these have been easier than others. This week, however, we had to do a substitution and use the vegetable recommended by The Bump.
At 25 weeks pregnant, our baby is the size of a head of cauliflower, measuring about 13 1/2 inches and and weighing about 1 and 1/2 pounds. For comparison to cauliflower size, i put the vegetable near an apple and an orange, both fruits I am trying to eat more of this trimester.
We had seen rutabagas, the vegetable of the week from BabyCenter at Safeway so we were confident we would find them for this week’s photo.
Yet, when we got to the store we found that while they did have rutabagas they were quite small. In fact, they were about the size of a turnip, the size of our baby recently at 17 weeks. As our baby is getting bigger and not smaller, this would not be the week we matched the picture with the right vegetable or one similar to the right one.
At 25 weeks our baby is putting on my baby body fat and his or her skin is becoming even less translucent.
As s/he grows, more room is taken up by his or her body causing more crowding near my rib cage. Baby is also growing hair in greater quantities, so that hair color and texture could be determined if it was visible now. In addition to baby growing my uterus is growing as well and is becoming the size of a small soccer ball.
In terms of getting ready for delivery, several books, online sources and pamphlets from our doctor suggest we could even start admissions paperwork for the hospital. As we visited and confirmed our pediatrician of choice today, it’s definitely time to get the materials needed to start this task.
