Our Baby at 36 Weeks – Size of Romaine Lettuce Head

Today our baby is 36 weeks along, the start of my ninth and final month of pregnancy. This puts him or her at the size of a Romaine Lettuce head at about eighteen and a half inches and six pounds in length. S/he is on track to put on about an ounce and a half daily. For a size comparison I our this week’s comparison food up to last, the pineapple.

Many moms to be will experience the baby dropping at this point getting lower in their pelvis. With the added pressure on my tailbone, increased runs to the bathroom and several people telling me that the baby has dropped, I’m inclined to agree.

Our baby is losing his or her downy hair and protective waxy coating this week that will be swallowed by him or her and expelled in waste eliminated at birth.

Part of me is surprised that my baby did not come earlier than this in part as I was early by several weeks. I’m looking forward to the last weeks of my pregnancy and if all goes to plan being delivered by Dr. G in a planned C section in 21 days.
