As my mom lives in Florida she had to travel across the country to meet William. Matt and I were delighted to have her come out to spend some time with us, and Candy and to meet her first grandchild in person.
Mom really took to William fast. Talking to him, cooing at him and rocking him. He seemed to enjoy meeting her as well.
I really looked forward to having both Candy and my mom in the same room so I could give them a special gift I’d had custom made for them. One side of the glass shows when they became first time moms to me (left) and Matt (right).
The second side shows the year they were promoted to new positions (with titles they had chosen months ago) with William’s birth.
My mom enjoyed holding him so much the first day that she was eager to hold him on the other days of her visit as well.
He was definitely making and maintaining good eye contact with her. I love when he does that.
While I’ve thought and many people have said William looks so similar to his dad, especially at a young age, my mom insisted she saw a lot of me in him. So much so that we had to hold the photo of me as a baby up to him.
People have also said that while sometimes a baby’s features will stay very constant throughout their lives, it’s also possible he will look more like one of us or both in time. It’s definitely something to think about.
I will definitely have to take and post a photo of William with the framed photo of Matt as a boy that Candy has, after we see it and her for our Thanksgiving visit.
