The Test Not Taken

One of the most important aspects of pregnancy care is having an OB you trust. Matt and I (and also Candy) huge fans of mine, Dr.G, and had hoped he would give us reassurance after he had directed me to skip the CVS.

Dr. G is a great doctor who truly cares about his patients, to my surprise Matt took some photos of us both and I love that you can see his concern and concentration in them, at this point I was looking for blood pressure results I’d archived on my phone to show him.

Dr. G started by saying we had a good phone conversation yesterday. He told me even with the full geneticist’s report which he now had access to, the only number that really jumped out at him was my age and he still thinks I have an excellent chance of having a perfectly healthy baby. He reminded me that most of his patients will include women older than me, the oldest was 46, and she had a natural conception like I did.

I do agree with Dr. G, that the noninvasive NIPT blood test is enough for now. After the NIPT test comes in, he will have the general summary available to him in my record and Matt will have access to the full results. I may or may not have an amnio and if I do it is a much less risky (in terms of both possible harm to baby and miscarriage risk) then the CVS would have been.

Dr. G said the baby looks good ok our scan. Matt took photos of the light up parts showing our baby’s beating heart. I’m feeling a lot better after this appointment and optimistic that our baby is most likely healthy.
