Week 18 – Size of a Bell Pepper

Our baby is now 18 weeks-  the size of a bell pepper. This means the head to rump distance is about five and a half inches. For size comparison, I put the bell pepper next to the clown nose I wore for Red Nose Day on Thursday.

Though it seemed to me that the bump grew out between weeks 17 and 18, I also felt more overall pressure on my lower back especially when waking up and getting out of bed.

This week is characterized by a lot of movement as our baby can and does move arms and legs at will bending, stretching, kicking and punching. While too early for me to feel this as kicks and lunches, I did feel a lot more of the gurgling movement that I’d expect. Baby also begins sucking his or her thumb more frequently.
