24 Weeks Milestone – Viability

Preganancy is full of lots of wonderful milestones. I reached one I’ve been waiting eagerly for on Friday that of 24 weeks. This day is often referred to as one of viability in that if the baby were to be born at that point there is a high chance of survival, depending on sources cited it’s 50-70%. In honor of baby’s viability today’s post features bump pictures of recent weeks.

In each of the photos for these weeks I wore some of my favorite shirts. At 21 weeks I wore my Maui whales shirt from our honeymoon. I’ve read about a small number of babies being born this early and surviving, however, the number is low so I was thrilled to reach the next week.

My shirt for 22 weeks is a tribute one to The San Francisco Giants and one of my favorite wrestlers, Daniel Bryan who is now Smackdown General Manager. We bought the shirt at a game and even though I’d been laid off just a few days before, and  Matt had faith I’d find a job soon and so we enjoyed the game as we normally would and I got the shirt that is so special to me. I did find a job just a week later.

We had a great time at the game with our friends Erick and Alexis, Tim and Erin and Kari and Michael. Each of the couples at the game have gotten married since then with the exception of Kari and Michael who are getting married in a few weekends.

This San Jose State Alumni shirt is one I won in a drawing of participants in an online networking event. I was literally counting down the days at this point as viability day was so close.

I decided to do something a little special to celebrate baby. After considering a few bakeries, I decided on Sweet Tooth Confections to make my purchase.

In honor of our active little baby who likes to move around to sometimes to music, mangoes, chocolate or me exercising, I bought Matt and I each two cupcakes. For Matt on the top row Boston CreamPie  and Banana Coconut and for me Burnt Almond and Chocolate and More Chocolate.

Though I am so proud of baby reaching this milestone, I hope baby stays in utero and grows all the way till 38 weeks when Dr. G plans my induction.

As an aside, Matt has been trying hard to feel baby from the outside. Today he put his ear up to my belly and felt a few taps for the first time. I can’t wait till we see him or her moving around more from the outside and till we can both feel stronger movements.
