Our baby is 30 weeks today, the size of a large zucchini at 15 3/4 inches long and weighing almost 3 pounds. For comparison I put this week’s vegetable next to last week’s vegetable, the Butternut Squash.

29 Week OB Appointment
Yesterday Candy, Matt and I went to my 29th week appointment. Since I’d been corresponding with Dr. G online through the health email system (a system that was down quite a bit this week and somehow worked for me better as a phone app then a website), we’d discussed a few things in advance.
B.A.B.I.E.S. Study at Stanford
I was on Facebook when I saw an ad for the Brain and Behavior Infant Experiences Study at Stanford University. There wasn’t a lot of information on the ad, yet it looked intriguing and so I filled out the form, a simple survey about my pregnancy so far. For additional information I wanted them to know I mentioned my age and how it might be interesting to have me as an older mom in the study. Less than a day and a half later, Marissa, a recent graduate from the Psychology Department at Stanford, called me to do a prequalification phone screen.
Itzy Ritzy Nursing Happens Inifinity Nursing Scarf – Product Review
I received Itzy Ritzy’s Nursing Happens Infinity Nursing Scarf in my Bluum box last month. As I said on that entry, the product, especially when compared to the one on the photo of the package in gray and white, resembles greatly one I’d put on my Amazon baby registry in black and white. Still, I’d received one that was much more colorful as you can see below, including a pattern with black, white, gray and hot pink in it.

Happy Birthday (Week), Aunt Carol – Throw Back Thursday
While my Aunt Carol celebrated her birthday in its true day which was Monday, in her words she’s had and is having a week of celebrations to fit in her friends in small groups. As a very social person, this fits her perfectly.

First Week on Insulin and Insurance Coverage and Pharmacy Procedures
I first started taking Humulin, a brand name form of Insulin, a week ago. This adds more equipment to the chair and table section of our dining room table that I’ve come to think of as my Gestational Diabetes Corner. There are a few different ways to take Insulin, though taking it orally wasn’t an option as that would cross the placenta to our baby. The type I’m taking is via a KwikPen which is supposed to be covered a great deal by our insurance, more on that later in this post.

The Tale of the Clownfish and the Great Shark – Book Review
I read “The Tale of the Clownfish and the Great Shark” by Lily Lexington on Kindle. I knew nothing about the book or author before starting other than it was a book for children and the fish was a Clownfish like the main characters of “Finding Nemo”. While I have to admit as a first time mom to be, I don’t know a lot about books for children yet, the idea of a “fun rhyming kids book” as this was described on Amazon, was a new concept to me, one I was eager to try out.

29 Weeks Pregnant – Size of Butternut Squash
Our baby today is 29 weeks, about 15 inches, the size of a large butternut squash and weighing 2 1/2 pounds. For size comparison, I put a squash next to my filtered water bottle that holds 26 ounces of water.

Serving as a Shepherd for Grades K-5: Singing and Science Activities
I was delighted that today was the first Sunday for which I would serve as a Shepherd, a helper with the Children’s Ministries. During the church service Peggy Joy called up a few kids to talk about sinking and swimming, demonstrating with props and water, then we heard the story of Jesus walking on water during a storm and how temporarily his disciple, Peter, was able to do so (with Jesus aiding him) until he no longer believed he could do so, and then started sinking.

Gestational Diabetes Management – Diet, Exercise and Insulin
I’d been keeping my food diary and taking my blood sugars each day: upon waking and an hour after each meal, along with working out. Still as I saw high I numbers I was concerned and was a little nervous to send the Google document link to my Dietician so she could see my recorded values and changes in real time. I was especially nervous as she had mentioned insulin as a possibility for me depending on my numbers.
