As I’d had a Cesarean Section, I was eligible to stay in the hospital for four nights, going home today. I’d been asked how I felt about going home, and I said that while the support and meals had been great, I couldn’t wait to take William home with us to start this new part of our lives.
One of the last tasks before we were released was to check his weight. As most infants do, he’d lost some weight after birth and was slowly putting it back on, a healthy sign.
William’s going home outfit was a present from Candy, a white outfit with silver stars and “Welcome to the World” on it.
A nurse came to help Matt strap him into his car seat for the first time.
I took photos to capture the moment and also for reference for later to show us how he is correctly buckled in.
Per hospital policy, two volunteers came to our room. One to help me get in and be pushed in a wheelchair with the car seat and baby on my lap, and the other to wheel our stuff down on a cart.
I had a nurse take a family photo of us before our first car ride as a family.
I’d been told many babies like car rides which put them to sleep.
William did sleep well for our ride home.
