Oops We Did It Again – Then and Now

It all started with the cards. In 2014 we gave each other the very same Christmas card. While we both bought them from the same store, the store had had lots of Christmas cards available, so it was amusing, though not a one in a million type of chance thing.

In 2016, we had matched each other so precisely that I made a Facebook post about it with this photo. In 2015 we gave each other the I Love You. I Know jewelry presents (I gave him the necklace halves – I figured he could wear his on his keychain if not around his neck, and he gave me the set of two rings. In 2016 we both gave each other chopsticks, I gave him lightsaber inspired ones, and he gave me this beautiful red set with their own box.

Soon after seeing the post, Matt reminded me that we had actually matched each other one more time during the Christmas season. For Christmas he gave me a Nikki Bella – Stay Fearless Shirt. For his birthday the next day I gave him a NES Nintendo John Cena shirt, one he’d wanted for a while. He’d looked on eBay for one in his size and never found one, and ironically one happened to be listed when I checked the day after he mentioned it, and then was soon bought, by me, for him.

We’ve both worn those shirts a lot, including to the Payback PPV, that we had some fun with signs as it was our baby’s first live PPV in utero.

This year when Christmas rolled around I saw we could have matched each other again, but didn’t exactly due to a technicality. Matt had gifted me a glass and ingredients to make a Black Russian drink (he’d tried to get Baileys to make it a White Russian but there were no little bottles to go with it). Under the tree he received the Makers 46 custom glass set he wanted. I’d told him to get him off the track that since I didn’t have a Costco card myself he wouldn’t be getting one, however, Candy who did have one, fell in love with the idea and wanted to give it to him instead.

Then a few days later my last Christmas gift from Matt arrived. On the main side was an ocean inspired mother’s ring with a starfish, pearl like stones and red coral. Matt said this was as I’m not a Tiger Mom or Dragon Mom, I’m a Mermaid Mom (as I love Ariel, the Disney princess version of The Little Mermaid). On the other side was a beautiful silver marble like finish.

Matt’s gift commemorated my first year as a mom, just like the frame and the wood canvas I gave him as a gift and stocking stuffer, respectively. While I did not give him anything wearable, as far as I’m concerned we matched again. It will be interesting to see if we match again next year in some way.
