Outdoor Baby Shower for Our Neighbors

Today Matt, William and I went to the first outdoor baby shower we’d ever been to for our upstairs neighbors, Todd and Yuka. It’s been fun seeing Yuka’s bump grow over the last few months. As the guests knew their baby in utero is a boy, many people wore blue to shower including Matt and I, and even William started out with an outfit with blue stripes in it though we had to change him to another one midway through the party.

William had not been a huge fan of his Baby Bjorn carrier when I’d last tried it months ago. Now, with his head coming over the top of it, he was calm in it, allowing me to move around the party easily.

I love their idea to have people sign this frame with great photos of them. From left to right, they are the shower invite picture, a sonogram and a gender reveal cupcake.

As the theme of the party was their son, Hiroyoshi (or Hiro for short) as an astronaut, their cake had star wars space ships on it.

The party featured lots of games including one for men only: chugging apple juice out of baby bottles.

The game was very competitive. One player’s bottle had a bend in it, yet he did not win. The baby’s uncle with gray pants on won. Matt had the least amount left at the end, and seemed very close to winning at some points.

Another game involved making babies out of Play Dough. It was amazing how many different ways the guests chose to depict a baby. Though we were told you could mix colors almost no one did so.

The party was very well coordinated. It was catered by Red Robin’s burger bar station, so there were burgers and chicken wraps. There were even favors for the guests with candy with an astronaut theme.

Perhaps it was the heat, or the lack of naps during the day; near the end William was fussy and cranky. So we missed the last half hour, though we had a wonderful time celebrating with our neighbors.
