A few months ago my church had started advertising photo sessions to put new members in the directory. We were invited to come, however, all the sessions were at hours that I was working. Bonnie really wanted me to be able to be included, so she made sure there were evening hours. The session start time was a bit after William’s bedtime, however, so I wasn’t sure how cranky he’d be.
We arrived five minute early as directed, only to find out that the photographers were running late and we would be taken in about twenty minutes later than expected. Luckily, we had one of his favorite musical toys to distract him.
Pastor Mariellen who had her session earlier in the day was happy she got to say hello.
Everyone had fun trying to make William smile as we waited.
Just before we were called in, I had a chance to check out the makeshift studio.
From my photography classes at college, I knew what each of the pieces of equipment was for.
Avery was our photographer and whenever William was in a photo he tried to get a smile by making noises and faces. He also tried to get individual photos as well as group shots.
At first, it seemed like William would cooperate for a shot on his own.
However, William was in no mood to cooperate.
Even with Matt’s coaxing, he was too tired and cranky to have any more pics taken. We put him in his stroller and took a few without him.
After, Avery showed us the proofs from the session. Photo 99 will be the one of us in the directory.
Although many great photos were taken and Avery worked hard, somehow William isn’t smiling in any of them.
My guess is he was just too worn out to be the happy, smiling baby he often is.
