I know I keep saying it in this blog, but it really just amazes me so much how fast time is passing for William’s first year. It seems like only yesterday that we were celebrating his Father to Be Day with me still pregnant, and now it’s his first Father’s Day with his son. I made sure to make a special chalk sign to celebrate.
Matt is such a wonderful dad, very hands on and nurturing. William is a happy baby who is easily amused, yet no one makes him laugh as hard or as often as his dad.
I’d hoped William would be saying “Dada” before or on Father’s Day as a present for him. I even had Maribel practice it with him, but it wasn’t to be. He will say dadadada in a string, but not consciously. Still, William, Candy and I had other great presents for Matt.
Candy’s presents as always were wrapped with perfect lines and corners, mine were not, though I certainly tried.
First, Matt’s gift from William (with help from Maribel) was a decorated reusable bag with ducks on one side.
The other side featured a butterfly with his footprints.
Candy gave him a statue of a dad holding a young baby, one from a set of which she had previously given us one of a couple holding their newborn.
I had three gifts for Matt in theory, though one is apparently lost in the mail. This one was a Star Wars inspired, Coolest Dad in the Galaxy shirt.
Lastly, I gave him a frame with a photo of the three of us as DC Superheroes. The background is a photo of San Jose featuring The Fairmont Hotel where we have had many special memories over the years.
I love how the cartoon of us turned out, and as the gift was a digital file, I was able to make a copy for myself. The file is large enough that we can make it poster size for after our move into a two bedroom apartment late next month. Matt had a wonderful first Father’s Day.
