William is Forty Weeks Old

How could it be that so much time has gone by? I’m so amazed by the fact that William grows up and changes before our eyes. The topic of memory, what he learns and retains at this age (and other ages) has always been one that’s fascinating to me.

We just moved this weekend to a two bedroom, so the location of toys and other objects, including where he sleeps are all new to him. Still, I’ve definitely seen signs of things he remembers. He’s always smiling brightly when he knows we are at daycare. I think he knows by the building. When he sees Maribel, he always lights up. She enjoys playing peek a boo and other games with him.

This soft book is one of his favorites. He always smiles when he sees it, grabs it and looks at the pages. He has no idea there are words on it that are upside down, he just loves having it around.

Sometimes his favorite activities involve things that aren’t toys at all. He’s always been a fan of mom’s jangly keys. I usually let him touch them, and then have to quickly take them away before he tries to mouth them.

This week he’s learned a new sound, that of the hard k. It’s funny hearing him say “kuh! kuh! kuh!..” over and over again. While we will still get strings of “dadadada” I”m not sure you’d consider that officially a first word of dada yet.
