I’ve had so many people, mostly parents, tell me not to blink or my son would be starting kindgergarten or starting high school. While of course the time doesn’t fly by that quickly, tomorrow our son will be a whole year old. Even with a year of memories, drawers full of clothes, new products and toys, and a phone crammed with literally thousands and thousands of photos, it’s still so amazing that he’s about to hit this milestone birthday.
We’ve definitely gone through many, many diapers. A good many were given to us at my baby shower. William is currently in a size 3, but some leakage especially at night means he will be going to a 4 just as soon as we run out of the last few from our last purchase. I’ve had fun taking lots of photos of him, and I’m remembering more and more to be in them as well.
William has learned so much in this year. It’s been amazing seeing this little guy learn to flip over from one side to another, to sit up, to pull himself up and to crawl. I truly thought he’d walk before his first birthday (though as I write this, there are still a few awake hours left for him today if he wants to go for it), as he pulled himself up fairly quickly and walks with holding onto things, but so far no non holding onto things steps.
AS for words, he says dada (usually as dadadada) and while, I’m the only one who thinks that I’ve heard it, I swear I’ve heard him say no a few times. He loves shaking his head no, but it seems like more of a coincidence when he does it than a pointed effort to actually say no.
As you might expect, the groceries we buy have been different this year than any other. From formula to baby food, diapers and wipes, it seems we go to the grocery store every other day, sometimes more often.
That’s OK, though, as William loves going. As he can sit in the cart, he loves watching people and studying what we buy. This is some new pasta and vegetables for him, I love how intent he seems to be reading the label.
We haven’t used his baby carrier in months, so when we carry him it’s in one arm. I’m truly curious to find out how much he weighs at his one year check up in a few days. My guess is probably 23 pounds or more.
Although we are still very new parents, Matt and I agree that this has been such an amazing experience for us both. We look forward to helping William celebrate with a little party at home tomorrow and with a bigger party coming up over the weekend.
