For the last nine years Matt has made a tradition of watching the San Francisco Giants Home Opener at home with food and beer and guests when possible. This year I was able to join as did his mom, Candy.
We each wore Giants clothes, Matt and I both in our jerseys. I wore my necklace which features Madison Bumgarner’s number, which ironically for my blog name and theme, is 40.
Our decorations were as always a combination of old and new. The new included the Mylar balloons I spontaneously decided to buy while picking up Giants paper decorations.
The old included the three replica rings, one for each San Francisco Giants’ World Series Ring and Bobbleheads he got at several special games.
Some years Matt has had restaurant food including BBQ and wings, this year he decided to grill and we had Chateau Brion, an incredibly tender beef cut we first discovered for our Christmas dinner last year.
Candy brought mushrooms, onion, tomato and cucumber salad and potatoes and carrots. Her sides were all very healthy and she made sure everything was something I could eat while pregnant.
She normally would have added wine or vodka to the mushrooms, but as she knows I’m not even eating food cooked in alcohol left them out and they were still delicious. With the exception and that they drank wine and beer and I stuck to milk and water, it was a typical small party for us. Next year we hope to be be there in person so Baby Perri can enjoy his or her first ballgame on a home opener.
Tomorrow for Throw Back Thursday I’ll write about The Home Opener last year that we did watch, just not at home and Joe it was a special day for our then upcoming wedding day.
