In honor of the WWE PPV Matt and I attended last weekend, Payback, this week’s Throw Back Thursday focus is the Wrestlemania 31 On Sale Party we attended in 2014. Matt and I had originally planned to get General Admission tickets to the party, however, soon after buying our Wrestlemania tickets early online, were given a chance to buy VIP party tickets for a more interactive experience.
One of the main attractions of the event was a cocktail party attended by wrestlers and a chance to talk with and take photos with them. As Matt and were coming separately from our respective jobs, I was able to arrive before he did. Unfortunately, due to the customer case Matt was working on running long, he got there a great deal of time after I did. As a result, I was able to get photos at the cocktail party with some wrestlers that Matt did not. These included Jimmy Hart and Hulk Hogan. Hulk asked if I had gotten a photo yet with Daniel Bryan (whose shirt I was wearing) and I told him I wanted to get a photo with him first as he was an old school favorite of mine. Hulk said that was a good answer. Hart told me to have a good night, baby. I love how they keep up their personas with the fans like that.
I was delighted to see one of my favorite (now retired) wrestlers there, Bad News Barrett. While fans were at the party, so were reporters who were interviewing them at the same time. Barrett noticed me waiting and told the interviewers I was next. It was awesome to get a photo with him, he is so tall compare to my petite frame. In hindsight, I should have asked for a video clip so he could use his trademark, “I’m afraid I’ve got some…bad news” for Matt as he was still en route while I was at the party.
Finally, Matt arrived, and while the wrestlers had left the party at that point, he did get to enjoy some great food and drink with me. Then it was time for us to get autographs from Daniel Bryan, the highlight of the VIP tickets. While waiting in line we were told he would sign one thing for us each and that he could choose not to sign something and sign paper instead. Though I had been warned he might not sign my shirt as I was wearing it, he eagerly and quickly did it, so fast that Matt didn’t get the shot, though he did get one of him signing paper. With my shirt signed I eagerly posed for Matt for a photo doing the “Yes! Yes!” chant. Embarrassingly we had thought it was a two finger move at this point, so I have extra fingers involved, Daniel didn’t see this though, luckily, actually he’s got a great sense of humor and so he probably would have found it hysterical and adorable.
Though Matt and I take lots of selfies, somehow we managed not to get a single one with both of it in us for this event. We did, however, take selfies at the last RAW we were at, one of my favorite photos of us ever.
At the first RAW we went to, Roman reigns came down the stairs right in front of our section. Ironically, we both had on the Suplex City San Jose T shirt of his rival Brock Lesnar. As Matt thought our tickets for this RAW were in the Roman section, I made sure to wear a Roman Reigns T shirt and stickers. Matt was right, he came down our section again and I got these fun photos.
