Labor and Delivery Tour

In order to prepare for baby’s birth and my after hospital stay, I went on a tour of the general Labor and Delivery and a Birthing Suite at the hospital where I will deliver. Each mom has a room to herself with her baby (or babies if she is having multiples). The baby will room in with her.

There is the bed for the mom and a reclining chair that is for visitors. For husbands, boyfriends or partners who are present, they are given a identification bracelet that lets them in any time of night or day when shown to security and can stay overnight as much as they want. My tour guide, Staci, said as the chair isn’t as comfortable as a bed, they usually stay only two nights.

Our tour included other areas I was not permitted to photograph including two waiting areas, the general L and D room and the front of the NICU nursery (which only patients, parents and staff can enter).

Staci gave me a bag at the end of our tour.

Inside the bag were a few samples from Whole Foods and several coupons from them.

As I had nor yet revived my confirmation postcard of my preregistration I checked in with L and D admissions as my last stop after hospital for the day.

Ironically not only was I registered, the postcard was waiting for me at home.
