Everyone around us, from friends to family to child care providers have been predicting for weeks now when William would crawl. He’s been getting close before, having figured out how to move his arms, and his legs, yet never exactly coordinated to do a true crawl before today. It was amazing to see him put it all together right before our eyes.
In the past we have encouraged him by putting some of his favorite toys in front of him. Today Matt tried to encourage him with a stuffed bear that was part of a bouquet he bought me for Valentine’s Day. The bear normally sits on our couch, yet William, who has many bears that are technically his toys, has taken notice of it before. There was just something about the look on his face today, one of especial determination.
Matt not only held the bear out to him, he wiggled the bear up and down. Slowly, yet confidently, William started a real crawl towards his goal.
He was clearly laughing and having fun as he kept crawling as the bear kept moving just out of his reach.
Matt knew just how far to move the toy to keep him engaged.
I was there witnessing it, being at the edge of the couch to make sure he stayed on it, and most of all taking photos. Matt asked if I’d videoed it, and when I told him I had taken still photos, we decided to try it a second time.
This time William crawled with even more confidence and determination. We are so proud of him for hitting this milestone and grateful we were both there to see and document it.
