I feel like I could write every week, “Wow, I can’t believe how big William has gotten or how he is changing.” The tips for this week highlight learning through play, something he has definitely had positive exposure to.

When I first started taking William to church, I was going to only put him in the church nursery at times that he was fussy at. This was motivated in part as I noticed another couple in church with three kids, all appearing to be under three and one who is currently nine months old. At the same time, I’ve noticed how much fun William has when I do bring him to the nursery.
According to the Registered Dietician, Alison, who I saw during my pregnancy,
over 90% of women who develop Gestational Diabetes do test normally after they have delivered. Some women are told to get tested right away, some at six weeks, and others a bit later. While I was advised that I could get tested as soon as three months after delivery, it always seemed one thing after another popped up. So, just as she said she would, Alison sent me a reminder email and I scheduled the tests for this Saturday.

Midway through my pregnancy, Aunt Carol and I had discussed what kinds of toys babies liked. She told me that Baby Einstein ones were always amazing. The Baby Einstein Caterpillar Bendy Ball is a simple toy that always seems to be close to William whenever he is awake.

Last year on February 5th, I had one of the best days of my life. It started simply, as a Sunday I went to church, and stopped by the dollar store for some books. It’s so great to see William changing and growing. One amazing thing to us is watching how he learns more about himself and his environment. Recently he discovered that he can touch his toes with little effort. He first started doing so on the activity mat, bringing up his legs and gleefully touching his moving toes.
One of the most delightful parts of having books to read to our son is finding out there are interactive books out there. While William is only able to interact back to some extent, it’s great finding out there are books that have components that are meant to be touched, move or both. “Thank You For Being My Friend” is a book that allows the parent to take on the role of the horse.

Over the last few weeks William has been trying to learn to roll over from front to back and from back to front. Sometimes he would get frustrated when he would be on his front for Tummy Time, even when it was he who made that roll, as he was unable to roll again onto his back. Other times, he enjoyed being on his front, even though he was unable due to his age and strength level to crawl.

One of the best things about William’s day care provider, Maribel, is all the fun activities she plans for the boys in her care. One of them had a birthday on Friday, and so she had a birthday party for him during the day. I was astounded when she sent me this photo via text of William wearing a party hat without making a fuss about it or trying to take it off.
