Starting the Third Trimester

Depending on which source you use, the third trimester starts at week twenty seven, which I have completed, or week twenty eight, which I am in now. In honor of having reached this milestone, it’s time to post some more bump photos. The Pacman shirt was bought years ago to attend a birthday party for our friend Jason, and the tribe of self described game needs who attend.

28 Weeks – Our Baby the Size of a Large Eggplant

Today our baby is 28 Weeks the size of a large eggplant at almost 15 inches long and 2 1/4 lbs in weight. There weren’t too many eggplants at the grocery store, so despite burying the largest one this probably is bit smaller than our baby is in reality.

26 Weeks Pregnant – Size of a Scallion

Today our baby is 26 weeks along, the size of a scallion, at about 14 inches. S/he weighs about 2 3/4 pounds. For size comparison, I put the bunch of scallions up to the Charlie Brown Bobblehead we got at the San Francisco Giants game this weekend.

25 Weeks Size of a Head of Cauliflower (and Rutabaga)

One of the fun things Matt and I have shared during my pregnancy is finding the right vegetables and fruits for our baby’s week by week size comparison as defined by BabyCenter. Some of these have been easier than others. This week, however, we had to do a substitution and use the vegetable recommended by The Bump.

At 25 weeks pregnant, our baby is the size of a head of cauliflower, measuring about 13 1/2 inches and and weighing about 1 and 1/2 pounds. For comparison to cauliflower size, i put the vegetable near an apple and an orange, both fruits I am trying to eat more of this trimester.

24 Weeks – Size of an Ear of Corn

This week our baby is 24 weeks, about a foot long or the size of an ear of corn. For comparison I put the corn next to one a fruit cup of mangoes, one of my favorite fruits and judging by baby’s turning in my stomach when I last had some, one of his or hers as well.

23 Weeks – Size of a Large Mango

This week our baby is 23 weeks, yhe size of a large mango so about 11 inches long and a pound on weight.  We were unable to find a large mango at our grocery store, so we substituted a papaya of the right length which I paired with a water bottle for size comparison.

22 Weeks – Size of a Spaghetti Squash

This week I am 22 weeks along which makes our baby about the length of a spaghetti squash at 11 inches. When looking for this item in the grocery store, Matt and I laughed at how large it was, though it’s for length comparison and not overall size. The one we bought was actually the smallest one in the store. For size comparison, I put it up to bump to show that baby is definitely not that size in my stomach as there has to be room for inner organs as well.

21 Weeks – Size of a Carrot

Our baby this week is the size of a carrot, an estimated ten and a half inches in length and 3/4 of a pound in weight. For comparison I put a carrot next to the Parents Magazine that just arrived today starting our subscription. In this week baby begins to swallow as well as breathe in amniotic fluid.

Week 20 – Size of a Banana

This week our baby is the size of a small banana which works out to six and a half inches long. (Though the banana is flatter than vegetables of other weeks including a Bell Pepper and Heirloom Tomato, it’s the length that is being used to measure not the width or roundness of the shapes). For comparison of fruit size, I put the banana next to two pics of my 20 week scan.
