This is a weekend of tree decorating for the Perri family. To start Candy visited us in San Jose so we could decorate the tree together. Candy had the great idea for us to take photos of William with the special ornament to commemorate his very first Christmas.
It’s been wonderful having Matt at home to help me parent William these last few weeks. Still, Monday was the day when he had to go back to work and it would just be me one on one with William.
William’s First Thanksgiving was spent in Pleasanton so he could visit with Candy. She had the table ready the night before and took him around it telling him all about the plates and decorations. It looks like something out of a home style magazine.
With two parents who love to take photos, William’s first visit to see Santa was an occasion to be dreamed of and planned well in advance. I learned the local Santa was part of a system where an appointment could be booked in advance, so we booked him an afternoon time for yesterday. I love this grumpy little expression on his face when Candy, Matt and I first set out.
Though I had the time to nurse him, William was unwilling to be asleep or totally calm for the rest of his session. We decided to keep going and just let him do his thing as we captured these precious memories of him.
I’d heard from several moms how amazing the in hospital photo sessions could be. For this reason I eagerly brought matching shirts for Matt, our baby and myself, as well as props, a few of which were gifts from people close to us. The photos turned our even more amazing then I had imagined.
Every mom I know has told me that I would find other moms so helpful soon after giving birth. It’s been great reaching out to other moms since then, as they are great resources for information and fun. My friend Amber has two young children, one of whom, Phoenix is four months old. I had greatly looked forward to having her come over with Phoenix to see William and to give me some helpful advice.

One of the best parts of William being born when he was is having so many holidays in a row to introduce him to. With Halloween up first, he had many things to look forward to with three different Halloween events for him to attend. The day before Halloween, Candy came down to have a pre-Halloween celebration with us. We gave her this Halloween card as it suited her so much.
An area of concern that some people had had for us was how Inky would react to William. Per instructions from a veterinarian tech, Matt had taken back a hat that William had worn to have her sniff to be prepared for William’s arrival. We were hopeful for and curious how the first meeting would go.
As I’d had a Cesarean Section, I was eligible to stay in the hospital for four nights, going home today. I’d been asked how I felt about going home, and I said that while the support and meals had been great, I couldn’t wait to take William home with us to start this new part of our lives.
