A Friendly Face at the Grocery Store

Matt and I usually grocery shop for the upcoming week on Sundays. However today we decided to go early so we could relax tomorrow. William was sleeping when we arrived so we kept him in his carseat and took him in his stroller. While walking around a little girl asked if she could peak at the baby. It turns out he had awoken and was happy to say hello.

Biting – Distraction, Supply or Both?

As many moms are,  I was excited for William’s firsts including his first teeth. He has two and while they are sharp, for the most part they haven’t caused any problems until recently. img_4204

Over the last weeks I’ve seen my milk supply drop in terms of what I can pump. I’m still able to make some milk to leave for when I’m at work, but it’s been less. Around this time William has now and then used his teeth while I’ve been trying to feed him.

Breastfeeding normally is quite comfortable, but being bitten is not. I’ve made sure to end the sessions in terms of breast feeding him when he does, though I do then let him finish up with his bottle.

It doesn’t happen every time luckily. Perhaps this is a way to try to get more milk, though a baby cannot of course bite and suckle at the same time. I’ve definitely seen him biting his bottle nipple. I’m hoping this behavior goes away and that I can boost the amount of milk I pump back up.

Daycare Adventures

William’s life is pretty routine now in that he has certain days when he goes to daycare and others when he is at home. Maribel was taking off Friday this week, so we sent him to daycare Tuesday in place of Friday. I wondered how he would react to this change if he’d noticed it at all. He did seem sad, perhaps even a little surprised to be woken up early instead of getting to sleep in as he gets to on his days at home.

Still once he got to daycare it was a regular day for him. Maribel sent me lots of photos of him enjoying himself.

He really enjoyed having his cap, so I sent it back for today. Somehow all three boys that Maribel watches had hats, so they had a little day where they all had fun wearing them inside.

William loves seeing the other boys dance about. Still, I know he wishes he could join them.

Though I of course miss him so much when I’m at work, I love seeing photos from those watching him and all the fun he is having.

Playing and Sitting at the Church Nursery

Over the last few weeks William has started sleeping in later when given the choice. For this reason I knew he’d be active for at least some of the time he was at the nursery at church. He definitely wanted to try to practice more standing and stepping.

Decreased Milk Supply From Pumping

With William having been eating solids now for over a month, he needs less breastmilk and formula. I’d heard that breastmilk production would regulate and decrease at certain point in the breastfeeding journey. Unfortunately, this has been true for us. Despite numerous times pumping over the last day, for the first time ever I was only able to bring 5 oz total of milk to daycare. I’ve noticed a decreasing production from pumping for the last few weeks, but this was the least amount I’ve been able to pump so far.

Quick Check Up with A New Pediatrician

William’s left eyelid had looked a little pink recently. As a baby he has razor sharp nails that need cutting often. My guess was that he had scratched his eyelid a little too hard. Still when it was red for a few days we decided to check it out. As this was not an emergency, I had to use scheduling app for his pediatrician practice to make an appointment. The practice was very busy, so we couldn’t get one right away and it was with Dr. W whom he had never seen.

As this was not a developmental checkup, they weighed him with his clothes on. Here he seems to be giving the nurse the side eye for having him on the scale while clothed.

A Visit From William’s Godmother

Although William’s Godmother, Kristi, lives local to us, our hectic schedules have made it so we had not seen her since William’s baptism. We were delighted to find out that our schedules matched up for a few hours yesterday, so we invited her over to see us and especially William.

Sleeping Duration and Frequency

I’m asked frequently if William finally sleeping through the night. Some people had mentioned when he had been on solids for a while or was a particular age he would, however as of today, he is still not sleeping through for an uninterrupted amount of time. I’m convinced this is in part as he doesn’t want to miss things. Here he was trying to hold onto his bear instead of letting me ease him into bedtime.

The Pumping Journey Continues

Today William is officially seven months old. That means that I have been directly breast feeding, supplementing (with formula and now we have added actual food) and pumping. For optimal milk production I would in theory be pumping every three hours when not directly pumping. Like most moms I don’t follow that schedule exactly, especially I am not waking up to do so when sleeping, though I do breastfeed when he wakes up during the night.
