Hospital Bags Contents – Hits and Misses

I searched online for information on what to put in my hospital bag and ended up packing one full diaper bag for baby and one full small rolling suitcase for me. Erin, who is due in December, asked me a great question: what did I pack in my bags that I didn’t need up using. It turns out as many moms had suggested that while I did use some of the contents, for the most part I overpacked by a lot. Anyone whose seen Matt and I pack for just a weekend would not be surprised that I overpacked for the three of us.

Divide and Conquer

Two of the first people I had shared the news of my pregnancy with were Shauna, who was a bridesmaid in my wedding and her fiancé, Jason. I was very excited for her wedding day, however, as it was a few weeks after my due date, I knew with a newborn that I not be able to attend. So, Shauna suggested Matt take Candy as his date. We happily accepted and were glad that Matt would be able to attend with a representative sent on my behalf.

Sleep Schedule – Wins and Losses

When just about anyone found our we were expecting they said seriously, jokingly or both that we should sleep then as neither we nor the baby would sleep for years. While that’s not exactly what our experience haa been, there have definitely been times when we’d like him to sleep more and he will not. Here he is with his famous one eye open look that had lead us to give him the nickname One Eyed Jack.

Visitors – In Person and In Spirit

One of the best parts of the hospital in which I gave birth was their very generous visitor policy. While visitors (defined as anyone aside from Matt who was given a special parent bracelet) did need to check in every time, they were able to come during the day or night and I was allowed multiple visitors at one time. One of the first visitors was Matt’s brother, Scott.

Maternity Overflow Ward

One of the great things about the hospital I’m delivered at is that they have an overflow ward in the Main Hospital for moms and babies following the birth. It’s a quieter wing with only a few rooms and the rooms themselves, while technically built for two adult patients, have only one bed remaining and are huge.

Bottom of the Ninth (Our Last Weekend as Just Two)

This weekend marks the last one of my pregnancy. There were many things to do to prepare, some practical and some fun. Last night we went out to celebrate our impending parenthood at LB Steak in Santana Row.

As you may have guessed from the photo my hair is now a diffenet color, as I put an Auburn over the Strawberry Blonde in preparation of the first photos with our baby.

A friend had recommended writing a letter to baby to be given to him or her later. So I bought these cards, one of which will be the right gender, and the other to be sent someday to other parents as appropriate.

I snapped a photo of my belly to make sure my belly button has not popped out. It appears I will not have had an outtie for this pregnancy.

I bought some detergent for washing clothes for baby. While at the store spotted this onesie for baby to wear for our apartment complex Halloween get together on next Saturday.

Since I will not be able to drive for weeks after my C-section I made sure to socialize with everyone before and after church. Ashley whose baby was born a few months ago even shared some great nursing tops and tanks with me.

I can hardly believe I’ll be 39 Weeks tomorrow and that I was able to continue this long to give our baby the best chance to develop and be healthy after being told a while back they would need me to deliver at 37. While it was wonderful of Dr. G to offer to deliver me this week if it was too uncomfortable to keep going, this extra role has been a gift to Baby and to Matt and I, as well.

200 Blog Posts

When I started this blog in March I wasn’t sure how it would turn out. I’ve been able to have a blog post for each day, most written on the day posted, some written in advance and a few written the next day and back dated. I’ve taken a lot more pics than I would have without it (especially of Matt’s hand on my bump) and had fun sharing moments with readers who are friends as well as strangers to me.

Our Cat & My Pregnancy – Does She Know?

Our cat, Inky, has been with us for several years, a true family member with a tail. I’ve read some women’s narratives that their pets knew they were pregnant early on, in some cases before the women themselves knew. With Inky, this was not the case.
