Whenever I attend church, William gets to hang out in the church nursery. I’ve been asked why I don’t bring him in with me, as another family does with their daughter who is only a few months older than William. I have considered letting him sit next to me, yet every time I bring him to the nursery he enjoys it so much. This week I was volunteering with the children who were doing the cooking station activity, so I definitely planned for him to be in the nursery so volunteering could have my full attention. The Children’s Ministry Director, Peggy Joy, agrees that as an active boy he probably has a lot more fun this way as well.

Last night Matt and I had the second part of our two year wedding anniversary celebration, a dinner out for just the two of us. While we have had a few nights when Candy watched William so we could join friends out for plans, this was our very first night out since we had had a baby. We took the light rail to our destination in downtown San Jose.

Today is our second wedding anniversary. As it’s on a weekday we decided to have a quiet celebration at home, then have our big dinner over the weekend. Since having William, most of the volunteering I’ve done for my church, Almaden Hills United Methodist Church, has been on Sundays while is in the church nursery. With this being Reconciling Sunday, our church had special plans to show our welcome message to everyone, especially the LGBTQIA community. I was honored to be asked to help serve communion, a first for me. I made sure to get photos with Pastor Mariellen with our colorful attire in honor of the day.

It’s amazing how the time has flown since Matt and I attended our upstairs neighbors’ baby shower. I happened to see Yuka outside while we were both returning from errands. She asked if she could see William, so of course I invited her over.

I decided to try William’s sippy cup with him again as part of the design to help him be done with bottles by his first birthday as doctor’s recommend. The first time he did not seem to like the cup much, so I thought perhaps with weeks gone by he would be more open to trying.

I was excited to be celebrating today, my first Mother’s Day officially as a mom. (Last year I’d unofficially celebrated with Matt as a mother-to-be, as we celebrated the moms in our lives.) My phone was inundated with text messages, several were chains of moms wishing each other a Happy Mother’s Day and this special one from Kristi, William’s Godmother.

Years before Matt and I moved in together, I adopted Inky, a wonderful cat. She took well to roommates I had before then, and took to Matt instantly. We didn’t know how long it would take to warm up to William, yet we were confident it would happen. They are definitely both very curious about each other.
